Another option is to move the icon to another location on your device. This can be done by simply dragging the Windows 10 desktop icon to another folder location. You can also do this by right clicking on the icons and selecting cut, then pasting it into your target folder.
Difference between desktop files and shortcut icons
Desktop files on Windows 10 are the actual files while shortcut icons are links to files located in other folders on your system. Although desktop shortcuts and files look similar on desktop, one can easily tell the two apart by looking for a little arrow that would be located in the lower left corner of the icon. If the icon does not have an arrow, it is a complete file. If you deleted the shortcut icon from your system, you only deleted the icon and not the entire file.
How to undo the removal of the Windows 10 desktop icon
If you accidentally deleted an entire file and want to get it back, you can only recover data if you haven’t emptied your system Recycle Bin. To do this, go to the Recycle Bin, select the files you want to restore and move them back to their original destination.
