By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Some are seeing the return of Facebook and its family of apps – Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus VR, after more than seven hours of disconnection during a massive global outage, disrupting the digital lives of billions of its users. Indeed, while websites and apps have been down for even longer, the current disconnection of services from Facebook and sister companies is considered the longest outage in the world.
All of these services suddenly went offline this morning and people started signing up for Telegram and Signal, alternatives to WhatsApp. The company has not disclosed the cause of the outage.
The problem started just before ten this morning and was not rectified by Facebook until around 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon. But not all users are online yet.
A Facebook spokesperson confirmed that the services were slowly coming back online, but warned that it would take some time for the services to stabilize.
âWe are aware that some people have difficulty accessing our applications and products. We are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience, âFacebook wrote on Twitter this morning.
Facebook engineers have been dispatched to data centers in the United States to resolve the issue.
In addition to looking for alternatives like Telegram and Signal, people have used their email more today to communicate with each other, including Facebook employees. Facebook employees were also cut off from email, internal communication tools and physical access to construction sites due to the outage.
Business fox has informed that DownDetector has reported that users of T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, Google, Twitter, TikTok, Zoom, and Amazon Web Services have also reported outages.
