Bharat takes a few minutes to consistently respond to texts

What’s your go-to communication tool?

I prefer WhatsApp.

Are you sending multiple messages or one big paragraph?

I send several messages because it is clear and gives readability. If I have to type more than five lines, I call directly.

Do you text before call?

Not in the middle of a workday or while working from home. For other times, it is courteous to send an SMS before.

Do you keep your blue ticks/seen last?

Yes. If I’m unavailable for a day or two, I turn off read receipts to stay informed. I answer later.

How long do you wait to respond?

A few seconds to a few minutes to form a coherent and correct answer in my mind.

What’s your group chat etiquette?

I send redirects on WhatsApp groups. I mute the groups in which I do not actively participate.

WhatsApp is primarily for family and friends. I send and respond to redirects based on content. I disable group chats instead of leaving.

Yes. This avoids calling several times without thinking.

Only during work.

How long do you wait to respond?

If I’m not busy and no detailed explanation is required, instantly.

What’s your group chat etiquette?

I don’t forward anything and only respond to messages if I can help with something. I left groups instead of deactivating them.

And the winner is…Jitender Ahuja

“Keep your blue ticks on. It’s a useful tool.”

“I like that he responds to texts within an hour and keeps his blue ticks on – a useful tool. Putting bulleted messages is great, and disabling groups is better than quitting,” says Ashok Ramachandran , CEO and Chairman of Shindler India.

“The most important thing to remember is how well you know the other person. Think twice before making an offhand comment. When in doubt, start your text with Mr/Ms (enter last name). Always show up,” he says.

Some additional tips:

• It is necessary to send SMS before calling. If it’s urgent, call and start with “Is this the right time?” “. Wait two days for follow-up, unless it’s urgent. • Watch your words. Phrases such as “do you mind…”, “can I please…”, “sorry to bother you” are ideal.

• On group chats, do not send hello/hello messages or use emojis or hug gifs.
