Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), the nascent smart device ecosystem, has become the third largest in the world. With now 550 million active users, 4.5 million registered developers and a wide variety of applications, the platform continues to expand day by day to provide the best for all Huawei users in Malaysia and in the world.

Although it no longer relies on Google Mobile Services (GMS) since 2019, the company continues to ensure that its users will not miss the latest applications in the market. This is especially for those who have recently adopted its latest smart devices such as the HUAWEI nova 8i, where the common misconception is that they will no longer be able to access GMS related apps on Huawei’s HarmonyOS platform.

Well, get ready to put your worries aside as the tech giant has prepared not one, but three solutions through Huawei mobile services so that you can enjoy all your favorite apps on your current or new Huawei device. Discover AppGallery, Petal Search and GSpace.

Eager to learn more ? Well, let’s go ahead and let’s get acquainted with the three extremely useful features!

Huawei Apps Gallery

The AppGallery is Huawei’s answer to the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Not only does it offer applications developed by third parties, but the platform also hosts a large collection of established and widely used mobile software of various categories, developed by participating partners and developers.

Keep your Huawei device up to date with the latest communication software such as Zoom, Telegram and Wechat; e-commerce applications, including Lazada and Shopee; local cashless payment platforms such as Touch ‘n Go eWallet, Boost and Setel; as well as mobile banking apps from Maybank, CIMB, Hong Leong and more!

Of course, software in the entertainment category is also plentiful. Enjoy games on your Huawei smartphone with titles such as PUBG Mobile, Garena FreeFire and Asphalt 8; image editing tools, including Canva, PicArts, and CapCut; and also bing-worthy streaming services such as Astro Go, Viu, iQiyi and iFlix!

All of these and more are available now through the Huawei AppGallery!

Petal search

Huawei Mobile Services HMS

Huawei’s Petal Search is a powerful alternative to search engines like Bing, Yahoo, and Google. Not only does it allow you to search for the latest news, interesting websites, and nearby services, the platform also helps you get apps featured on the AppGallery as well as trusted and verified third-party stores. This allows Huawei to provide even more options in terms of mobile software to its users, especially as an access point allowing them to acquire non-HMS applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Twitter!

Now you might be wondering: what about Google related apps? Don’t worry, there is an app for it.

Enjoy Google Apps on HMS with GSpace

GSpace is a Huawei approved tool that allows you to install GMS applications on your Huawei device. These include software such as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Photos, and even YouTube!

To take advantage of GSpace and its offerings, be sure to download it to your device through Huawei AppGallery.

Bonus: Transfer your WhatsApp chat history to your Huawei device

Facebook WhatsApp application

So you installed WhatsApp through Petal Search, but the underlying problem remains: how to keep your chat history from your old Android device? Don’t worry, just follow the steps below to restore all your conversations to your new Huawei smartphone.

First, back up your WhatsApp chats on your old device by going to Options, go to Settings, then Chat. From there, tap on Chat Backup and then uncheck the “Sync with Google Drive” option before clicking Backup. This allows the app to save all of your chat history on the device itself.

Then use a file exploration tool like Solid Explorer to locate the backup data on your phone by going to the Memory folder and then to the WhatsApp folder. Once there, highlight the Database folder inside (which contains the backup data) and then copy it to a USB-C data stick. After that copy duplicate folder from data key to internal storage memory of your Huawei phone. Alternatively, you can also transfer the folder to the smartphone via Bluetooth.

After the Database folder is transferred to your Huawei smartphone, just load WhatsApp for the first time. The app will then detect the backup data and ask you if you want to restore it to the device. Just tap Yes, verify your phone number and the private messaging platform will load your chat history. After that, you are pretty much good to go!
