The majority of settings applications in Windows 11 are centralized. The System Settings pane lets you manage everything from system adjustments to establishing new users and upgrading Windows. Users can access system settings by pressing the Windows + i key or by clicking Start> Settings. Or, you can use the taskbar search box to search for settings. Then choose to open it. Click Personalization in Windows settings, then choose Themes in the right pane of your screen.

  • Under Related settings in the Theme settings pane, an option for desktop icon settings will appear. Select this option.
  • Desktop icons will be displayed at the top of the Desktop Icon Settings window. Check the box next to the icon you want to see, such as “This PC”, “Trash”, “Network” or others.
  • After choosing the icon of your choice, click on “OK”.
  • The icons chosen above should be displayed on the desktop. These are handy icons that should help users get to important settings quickly.

Likewise, users can easily change default folder icons. To change a folder icon, right click on it and choose “Properties” from the menu that appears. You can also choose the folder and press ALT + ENTER to open its properties. Navigate to the “Customize” tab in Folder Settings, then click “Change Icon” under “Folder Icons.”

You will now see a selection of icon options for the folder. Scroll right to see more choices in the list. Once you have chosen an option, click the “OK” button at the bottom. Finally, in the Properties area, click “OK” to save the change and close the window.
