Snapchat desktop version is now available for Snapchat Plus users

Snapchat for web is a PC version of Snapchat that was announced on June 18, 2022. Snapchat will gradually roll out this update to all users worldwide. For now, however, it’s only available to Snapchat Plus users in the US, Canada, UK, New Zealand, and Australia. Here’s a screenshot we took of the company’s newsroom page to give you an idea of what it looks like.

Features of Snapchat for Desktop (Web)

Snapchat for PC will retain all the functionality of Snapchat to allow users to continue their conversations from any PC device. You will continue to enjoy options such as voice and video calls, the ability to reply to messages, and the ability to react to messages with emojis.

Snapchat also announced that it is working on a feature known as “Lenses” that it will soon add to Snapchat for web. Since September last year, the company has been working on this unique feature, allowing users to apply special effects to the face to distort its appearance. Lenses will use special effects like monster vomit and rainbow effects.

What about your privacy? Should you be worried about Snapchat for PC? We know Snapchat is all about maintaining your privacy, and the new desktop version is no different. Using a special feature known as a “privacy screen”, the app blocks your chat content when you close the app without logging out first.

As if that wasn’t enough, this feature even prevents intruders from taking a screenshot of your Snapchat window. No one will be able to access private photos in your inbox that you don’t want anyone to see without your consent.

Similar to standard Snapchat, Snapchat for the web offers a setting that, when enabled, deletes images you send or receive in a chat as soon as you or the recipient sees them.

How to Get Snapchat for Web

If you live in one of the geographic regions listed above, you can access Snapchat on your desktop anytime. Just fire up your desktop, launch your browsers, go to and log in to your account. Our screenshot below shows what this process looks like:

Preferably use Chrome, as that is the particular browser that Snapchat mentioned for this process.

It’s a good thing that Snapchat for web supports all PC platforms. This means that if you are using Windows or macOS, you will be able to run this software on your computer once you become eligible.

Is Snapchat for the web released a little late?

Snapchat for web is a long-awaited feature given that many of its competitors, including Whatsapp, Skype, and Telegram, each already have something similar.

For example, Whatsapp already has Whatsapp for Web, a web-based version of the app the company launched nearly seven years ago. Another competitor, Skype, has maintained its desktop software version since 2003.

There’s also Telegram, which has had a PC version since last August. It’s an indication that Snapchat needs to pull up its socks by unveiling other equally necessary features that it doesn’t yet have, even though its competitors already have them. (c).
