Telegram Messenger receives an app update, which brings ten new features to the cloud-based instant messaging platform. As part of its update, the app features profile videos, improved photo and video editor, improved functionality for people nearby, mini-thumbnails, group stats, animated emoji, multiple accounts on the Telegram desktop, 2GB file sharing capabilities, and more.

Take a look at the new Telegram features:

Profile Videos

Users can now upload a video, instead of a static image, to their profile and choose a keyframe from the video for their static profile picture in chats.

Improved photo and video editor

The new photo and video editor allows the user to manage skin tone through the editor on any photo or video taken with the front camera. For Android users, cropping and rotating videos in the editor is also available now.

Improved people nearby

As part of the app’s privacy and security settings, this feature allows the user to see the exact location of the other contact.

Mini thumbnails

Telegram chats now show a mini thumbnail of photos and images attached to conversations. Therefore, users do not need to open the incoming message to check what is in it.

Filter new threads from non-contacts

As part of the app’s privacy and security settings, this feature automatically archives and deactivates new chats from people not in the user’s contact list. The user can access these threads at any time from the Archive folder and bring them back to the main mailing list.

Group statistics

Group chat has been one of the main features of the Telegram app. The new update allows the owner of groups over 500 members to see detailed graphs on the activity and growth of the group. It also displays a list of top members based on the number of posts and average post length. The statistics function also includes parameters such as group growth, members joined or left at a given time, source of new members joined, languages used, content format used (text, links, photo, videos, etc.), best days and times, best members and administrators, etc. These features may be available to administrators of all groups of 100 or more members in the future.

Multiple accounts on Telegram Desktop

Telegram now allows users to stay signed in on 3 accounts from different phone numbers without signing out. This feature is now available on the cross-platform Telegram Desktop client and does not require an active connection to the user’s phone.

2 GB file sharing

Users can now send an unlimited number of media and files of any kind – up to 2GB each – to Telegram.

Android Supplements

On Android, the update brings a redesigned music player with new icons and an expandable track list. Users can press the left button to control looping, shuffle, and reverse the order of tracks. Additionally, the update brings a new message entry bar, which expands smoothly as the user types a long message. There is also a new video editor which also allows you to crop and rotate videos.

Animated emoji

A new set of animated emojis are added to the Telegram repository.
