Due to its cross-platform capabilities and complete cloud-based solution, Telegram is a joy to use on desktop platforms, including Windows and Mac. It may happen that Telegram does not respond and does not open the application. Here’s how to fix Telegram not opening on desktop.

You can still swipe with Telegram Web, but nothing beats a native app experience. Let’s fix the problem and start using Telegram on Windows.
1. Completely close the Telegram
When you close the Telegram application on Windows, the system does not completely stop the service. Telegram keeps running in the background to instantly send new messages and notifications. In some cases, when you try to launch Telegram while it is already running in the background, you may experience issues.
You should use Task Manager to completely close Telegram services and try again.
Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Task Manager.
2nd step: Press the Enter key and open Task Manager.
Step 3: Find Telegram Desktop in the list. You will find the Telegram Desktop option in the list of background processes.

Step 4: Click on it and select the End Task button at the bottom.
Alternatively, you can click the up arrow button on the Windows taskbar, right-click the Telegram Desktop icon, and select the Quit Telegram option from the context menu.

2. Make sure you are using an active internet connection
To sync your latest messages and group updates, Telegram requires an active internet connection. If you are not connected to the Internet, Telegram may not open or be stuck on the online status.
Open the Settings app in Windows (use Windows key + I) and navigate to the Network & Internet menu. Use Ethernet or a working Wi-Fi connection and open the Telegram app on Windows.

3. Run Windows Store App Troubleshooter
Microsoft offers a built-in troubleshooter to fix bad behavior of apps installed on your PC. Since Telegram is readily available on Windows Store, you can run the troubleshooter and fix Telegram not opening on desktop.
Follow the steps below to run the Windows Store app troubleshooter on your PC.
Step 1: Launch the Windows Settings app.
2nd step: Go to System and open the Troubleshoot menu.

Step 3: Select other troubleshooters.

Step 4: Scroll down and select Run next to Windows Store App Troubleshooter.

You don’t have to do anything now. Let Windows run the troubleshooter and fix the Telegram problem for you.

4. Allow telegram to always run in background
By default, all Windows applications are powered by the operating system. Here, Windows decides what is best to save the most power while still allowing the app to receive notifications. You have the option to change it to Always to keep Telegram running in the background all the time.
Therefore, Telegram may use more power, but you will not face connection issues or connection issues.
Step 1: Go to Windows settings and open the Applications menu.
2nd step: Select Apps & features.

Step 3: Scroll down to Telegram Desktop.
Step 4: Click on the three-dot menu and select Advanced options.

Step 5: From the Background apps permissions menu, select Always.

5. Repair Telegram
You also have the option to repair the Telegram app. Here is how you can find and run the Repair Tool for Telegram on Windows.
Step 1: Open the Windows Settings app (Windows keys + I) and navigate to the Applications menu.
2nd step: Select Apps & Features and find Telegram Desktop in the list.

Step 3: Go to the Advanced menu and you will find the Repair button in the Reset menu.

Click Repair and let Windows run the repair tool to fix Telegram issues.

This applies to power users running graphics-intensive applications like Photoshop on PC. If you have too many apps and programs open, you may run out of RAM and it can prevent Telegram from opening problems on Windows.
Let us show you how to check free RAM on your PC, then you can use Task Manager to close background processes and apps.
Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Resource Monitor. Press enter and open the app.
2nd step: From the Physical Memory option, check the available free MBs.

If you’re low on RAM, open Task Manager (see the first tip) and close unnecessary apps and services on your PC.
7. Update Telegram
As we mentioned earlier, Telegram distributes the app through the Microsoft Store on Windows. The majority are not used to updating applications from the Store. After some time, it is recommended to visit Microsoft Store and install pending updates.
Open the Microsoft Store in Windows and navigate to the Library menu. Update Telegram to the latest version and open the app.
