Apps owned by Facebook (now Meta), including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and other apps, have started displaying the company’s new Meta branding on Android and iOS devices. The update comes a week after Facebook announced its new name as Meta and showcased the Metaverse it’s working on. Now all Meta (formerly Facebook) apps have started showing the updated mark on their start screen.
This has already been spotted in a beta version of WhatsApp for Android and iOS devices. The Meta brand is now reflected on Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, as verified by News18.com. The change comes as part of Facebook’s rebranding as Meta. The rebranding is part of Facebook’s efforts to expand beyond the social media industry and create a “metaverse”. Instagram and others now display a “from Meta” tag instead of the old “from Facebook” tag.
The metaverse announced by Meta (formerly Facebook) will be a virtual environment in which people interact virtually on the Internet in a more immersive way. The rebranding also comes amid complaints that Facebook is ignoring hate speech on its platform to prioritize profit.
